Commander’s Message

Comrades,
Cooler temperatures will be here soon and that usually means less yard work. However, the leaves will fall and that will be a tiresome never-ending job. Be careful as you begin the fall/winter work outside. There comes a time when we have to make the difficult decision to ask for help. I for one don’t know what I would do without the help of my daughter. She is a blessing to me. We help each other and make a great team.

Five Post Officers went to the National Convention. We attended as many of the breakout sessions as time permitted and gained information to continue to move the Post forward. While there, Post 9808 was recognized as an All-American Post. It was an honor to accept that award for the Post.

In order for Post 9808 to make All-State and All-American, it will take the effort of all members. The Post must meet the Community Service requirements, Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen, Recruiting Goals, Fund Raising and Membership of 102%. There are other requirements as well. I ask each of you to try your best to help where you can. Everyone is a recruiter so just tell your story and of course let others know about this Post. We really are an awesome Post.

The 3rd District held its quarterly meeting at our Post. It also held the School of Instruction which is an annual requirement. Post 9808 was well represented with 12 members in attendance. Thank you to those that were able to attend.

We have received our supply of VFW calendars from Department and they are available for purchase in the Social Quarters. They make excellent gifts and your name goes in a drawing to win every day of the year. Come take a look at the calendar and let one of us explain it to you. This year is a special edition recognizing Vietnam Veterans.

Remember, the monthly meetings now begin at 6:30 pm. Come have dinner and stay for the meeting and see members you haven’t seen in a while. We are a big family of over 800 members. And lastly, recruit, recruit, recruit!!

Please join me in welcoming our new Chaplain, Craig Secor, to the staff of Post 9808. Chaplain Secor will be providing his comments in the Chaplain Corner of the Newsletter.

Team Veterans,
Doris Wollett
Commander

Post 9808 hosts a community-based adult day care group that comes to the Post to play games and have lunch. On August 7, 2023, Auxiliary President Edith Jones and Secretary Gayle Meadows had the opportunity to present the participants and their leaders with an American flag. The participants were excited to receive the flags and proudly recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
