Comrades,
October was a busy month filled with events and lots of fun and laughter. We started it off with the monthly buffet breakfast and that same evening had a delicious steak dinner. On 15 October, we held our Oktoberfest and enjoyed German drinks and food. In between those events, we still supported Liberation by delivering and serving the residents a yummy dinner. Next was Lonesome Dove out in Powhatan where Veterans participate in equestrian therapy. After all the Veterans have dismounted the horses, Post members serve them and the volunteers a wonderful lunch. Mission BBQ brought dinner to Post 9808 on 30 October to show their appreciation and served all our Veterans in attendance. Lastly, we held a Halloween Party where adults got to dress in costume, have fun and enjoy a really good dinner. If you did not attend these fun packed activities, you really missed out. Mark your calendar for future special times.

Speaking of future special times, the next breakfast buffet will be 4 November so come out and enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet. You will not be disappointed. On Veterans Day, 11 November, members will be attending several ceremonies , the VA War Memorial, Hanover Wayside and, of course, a Program at Post 9808. Our ceremony will be at 4 PM followed by our Annual Pig Roast and Luau. Please make your reservation for the dinner by 3 ovember. We have also been invited to attend a Program at Bell Creek Middle School on 10 November where all Veterans will be recognized. Be there by 9:45 AM to be seated and wear your Post Meeting hat.

We continue to encourage our annual members to convert to Life Membership. That way you never have to worry about your dues expiring. We also ask that you help in recruiting new members. Commander in Chief, Duane Sarmiento, has challenged every Post to increase membership to 102% for this year.

Our Department, the State of Virginia, needs our help with their fundraiser. Calendars for 2024 are available for $20. They are more than just a calendar. Your name is entered in a drawing where you can possibly win from $50 to $1000. If your name is drawn, not only do you win what that days amount is, but your name is put back in for future drawings. Check with someone in the Social Quarters to purchase your calendar.

Thanksgiving is 23 November. Remember to give thanks for the many blessings we all have. We have our freedom because of every Veteran.

Your Post Officers are here to assist you. Contact us if you have questions or need help.

Team Veterans,
Doris Wollett
Commander
