Comrades,
Summer is certainly here and with it high temperatures and rain. Be extremely careful as you venture outside whether to work on your yards or pleasure. Make sure you have water nearby.

The 2023-2024 Post slate of officers have officially taken on their assigned duties and things are moving forward. We have received our marching orders from the State of VA as well as VFW National. Membership goals have increased this year to 102% with emphasis on Legacy Life is encouraged, and we have received Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen topics, just to name a few. While several of us are at Nationals, we will learn more of our requirements for the Post to qualify for All American and All State.

We started the month of July off by celebrating our Country’s birthday. The Post had a delicious barbecue and shared in camaraderie. Thank you to those that helped make this a wonderful day.

Volunteers are essential to keep Post 9808 alive. This means everyone is needed. There is something that we all can do to be of help around the Post from sprucing up outside to wiping down things inside. Help make YOUR Post beautiful. Volunteers are also needed to deliver and serve the meals at Liberation and Lonesome Dove and are also needed to help with Bingo on Wednesday and Friday nights. I’m not asking you to work everything every time but to at least help occasionally. The very few that are volunteering are getting worn out. Please help give them a break.

If you are an Annual Member, please consider paying your dues before Christmas. This is a goal that has been given to us from State. Also, think about converting to Life Membership. Those dues are based on your age. Life Members, leave a legacy by becoming a Legacy Life Member. Sr Vice Smith has set up a raffle that will get you to the first level. See him if interested.

At the July Meeting, those members in attendance voted on a change to the Post Bylaws, which will change the time the monthly meeting starts to 1830 (6:30 pm). This change is effective beginning with the 10 August meeting. Hopefully, more members will be able to come to the meeting. Also, come early and support the club by having dinner for just $9.

Remember there is not an I in Team. It takes all members to be on the Team for Post 9808 to be successful. Be a part of continuing Post 9808 meeting all the goals and requirements set before us.

Team Veterans,

Doris Wollett
Commander
